A GUIDE FOR THE
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

Picture

What is a
SIN
anyhow?

...any thought, word or deed against God's Will!
Picture

Five Easy Steps for a Good Confession!

Picture
STEP 1:    Prayerfully examine your conscience by reading the rest of this guide. If you are unsure or afraid to confess your sins, ask the priest to help you.

STEP 2:    When it is your turn, begin by making the sign of the cross and say,
 "
Bless me Father for I  have sinned.  It has been  (TELL HOW LONG: a month, a year, five years, etc.) since my last confession."

STEP 3:   The priest may give you a blessing and read a part of the Bible.  When he stops, you say
, "These are my  sins...(TELL WHAT KIND OF SIN and TELL HOW MANY TIMES YOU COMMITTED EACH SIN).  You may conclude by saying: ...For these and all my sins, I am sorry."

Picture
STEP 4:   Listen prayerfully to the priest's advice and be ready to pray your Act  of Contrition (at the bottom of this page and usually displayed somewhere in the Confessional)

YOU:         O, my God,  I  am...
PRIEST:    (Prayer of Absolution)
YOU:
Amen!

PRIEST:     Give thanks to the Lord,
                   for He is good.
YOU:

His mercy endures forever!
PRIEST:    Go in Peace.

STEP 5:     Pray or perform your penance as soon as possible.  It is a good practice to pray an extra prayer for your priest-confessor.

But how do I know
that it is a sin?

ACT OF CONTRITION

Picture
I am  sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against You whom I should love above all things.  I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more and to avoid what ever leads me to sin.  Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.  In His Name, my God have mercy.
